Structurebase: About This Project

The ambitious goal of structurebase is to create the world's largest, most complete and most useful database of buildings of all kinds.

Each structure will have its own page; with as much useful info as we can pack in.

Phase 1:

We will create the structure of the website and input the world's most famous buildings, together with their location and other interesting / useful information.

Phase 2:

Satellite mapping will enable us to detect and upload buildings by coordinates.

Phase 3:

Like wikipedia pages, people will be able to contribute photos, report changes and help create a "window through time", observing the building's life cycle and creating a long-term record for the benefit of future generations.

Uses and Benefits:

Our free Structurebase App will enable anyone to point their phone at a building and have it instantly recognize the building from coordinate mapping and (if desired) add the image to the record of the building; or, if the building has not been entered into the record yet, it will enable it to generate a new page for that building.

We hope to be able to add useful links for example to planning records, historical documents and more for future benefit. Our long term goal is to be able to provide information that is useful to business, authority, educational institutions and general public

Data analysis will enable us to increase our knowledge about buildings - charting their development through time, providing timelines and photographic records, and possibly have value to planning departments, conservation and more. This site aims to be the bridge between the "internet of things" and the world of construction.
